Waywide explained
Waywide roadmap
Where Waywide stands, what comes next and what needs to happen before launch.
Updated · Waywide
Now: testing the flight data. Waywide is pre-launch. Flight search, Watches and alerts are not available yet.
How close are we to launch?
We do not have a confirmed launch date. Reliable flight information is the main thing we need to resolve before we can test Watches with travellers. Then we need to show that those Watches work well in real use.
The stages below are checkpoints, rather than dates or a promise that each will pass.
Current
Find a reliable source of flight prices
Test coverage from New Zealand, how recent prices are, costs and permission to use the information for ongoing price checks. Our first provider test is complete; we are testing other options. No provider has been selected for the public service.
Next · depends on reliable data
Test Watches with a small group
Check that saved trips keep all the requirements together and that alerts lead to useful flights people can still find with the booking provider.
Later
Refine the service
Use what we learn to improve the website, explain limits clearly and confirm the support, privacy and reliability needed for a wider launch.
When ready
Open Waywide to more travellers
Launch only after the data and testing support it. Confirm what is available, who it works for and what Free and Unlimited include before asking people to pay.
Latest update
18 October 2026: Flight-data testing continues. One trial can connect successfully, but searches from New Zealand have returned errors. We have asked the provider to clarify these results. This has not confirmed usable NZ flight coverage.
The public website now explains the planned Watch, our approach to prices and the progress still needed. There is no change to launch timing.
How updates work
We will update this page when there is meaningful progress, a change in plans or a clearer view of launch. The date at the top shows when it was last updated.
